May 30th, 2012 - Lincoln Center hosted a very special evening with the Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute, honoring legendary virtuosic pianist, Byron Janis with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The ceremony was hosted by TV journalist & anchor, Deborah Norville & featured special performances and appearances including classical pianist virtuoso Lola Astanova. Lola is the only classical pianist Maestro Janis asked to perform during the program and while there is 64 years between their debuts at Carnegie Hall, Lola worked closely with Janis, under his mentorship, as she continues to develop her career to become a legendary virtuoso herself.
The night included an Official Proclamation from the honorable, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was the first of four awards Janis received in 2012.
