John Kanaya, whose real name was Senji Kanaya, was the grandson of Zenichiro Kanaya, the founder of the Kanaya Hotel. Senji himself gained fame as one of Japan's leading hotel managers. He was also a connoisseur of fine cuisine, and the restaurant he opened in Azabu was a popular gathering place for sophisticated people for many years. The illustration on this item, which depicts Senji, was created by the British artist group "Reagan" and conveys his stylish and dandy appearance, which is quite unlike that of a typical Japanese person.
